Why we are doing this

The problem in Nigeria
  • 2,243,816 candidates registered for the 2026 UTME. (JAMB, March 2026)
  • In the 2025 admission cycle, 706,418 admission places, 41% of the total, were left empty, while medicine, law and the sciences had far more applicants than places. Colleges of education filled only about 11% of their places. (The Whistler, May 2026)
  • In early 2024, 14.4% of young Nigerians aged 15 to 24 were not in education, employment or training. (NBS Labour Force Survey, Q1 2024)
What others have tried
  • Career days by companies, banks and universities give students a burst of information once a year.
  • JAMB, NELFUND and many scholarship schemes now offer online portals and guidance for those who can find them. (NELFUND, October 2026)
The gap we fill

Information alone is not a plan. Few students get personal guidance on subject choices and on all the routes after school, including polytechnics, colleges of education, trades, apprenticeships and small business. Youths who have already left school get even less. Life Direction Clinics give each young person time, tools and a follow up, in school and in their community.

What will change

Over 24 months, from January 2027 to December 2028:

  • 48 school clinics, 2 in each school every year, reaching 2,400 students in SS2 and SS3
  • 24 community clinics, 2 in each state every year, reaching 1,200 youths aged 18 to 25
  • Every participant completes a career interest tool and writes a My Next Step plan
  • 600 young people helped to complete applications for JAMB, NELFUND, scholarships, training or jobs
  • Volunteer mentors and professionals share real stories from at least 20 different careers
  • At 6 months, at least 60% of participants have taken their next step (survey of a sample)
Why it cannot wait

Decisions about subjects, examinations and courses are made in SS2 and SS3, and every year without guidance locks thousands more young people into choices they did not make on purpose. WAEC and NECO fees rise to ₦50,000 per candidate from 2027, so families need a clear plan before they pay.

Prices are estimates at November 2026 prices. Staff are costed as a share of their time. Teachers, students and community members are never charged. Indirect costs of 10% cover finance, safeguarding, audit and office support. Fees are paid directly to schools and service providers, never in cash.
